Bacup Natural History Society

The Bacup Natural History Society & Museum was established in 1878, and have a collection of over 4,000 photographs and slides along with various historical documents on the Bacup and Stacksteads areas.

The museum displays various domestic and military artefacts and also houses one of the oldest flint & fossil collections in Lancashire.

Fondly known locally as the “ Nat”, from Easter to the end of October they are open every Tuesday afternoon 1.30 pm to 4 pm, Thursday night from 7.30 pm, and every third Saturday in the month other times by  arrangement.

Visitors are welcome to use the new research and reference area where you can get help with your family or local history research, access online records or view the original collections of old local  newspapers such as the Bacup Times, The Bacup & Stacksteads Chronicle and Bacup Echo.
